Free Museum Weekend is all booked up!

To participate in Free Museum Weekend pre-registration was required to receive free admission. If you were not able to reserve tickets full-price admission rates may apply at any museums that have additional capacity beyond what was made available for free and will be handled and determined by each individual museum. If you were able to register for tickets please read below for some details about your visit:

We wanted to make sure you are all ready for the big weekend. Below are a few key bullet points about what to expect when you show up to the museum you reserved your tickets for. This is a new way for us to try and conduct the annual Free Museum celebration so please be patient with the museums you are visiting as they will be doing their best to manage their capacity at any-given time, and because of this there will be the possibility of wait times

Some Free Museum Weekend Tips

·      Your Confirmation Email will serve as your ticket to each museum. You may either print it out or show it on your cell phone.

·      Each Museum will have a roster of expected attendees to check against the confirmation emails. Each museum may handle this differently.

·      Free admission tickets must have been reserved. If you have friends or family that did not get tickets, please share with them that not all museums will have additional capacity above and beyond those reserved and those that do have capacity will likely revert to full-price admissions.

Can we email you about future Sacramento Area Museum (SAM) programs and events?

If you would like to opt-in to receiving emails from SAM please fill out the form below. We do not send out many emails but when we do, they are about great upcoming events including things like Free Museum Day. If you sign up for our mailing list, you will be the first to know when next years’ ticket reservations hit the site so you won't miss out!

Each year, Free Museum Day draws thousands of Sacramentans to local museums to experience the fascinating art, culture, and history of the region. In 2021, our collaborative group of Sacramento Museums went entirely virtual with Free Museum Month for the safety of our guests and museum staff. For 2022, we will present a hybrid event by hosting an exciting Free Museum Weekend (March 5 & 6) where guests will be able to choose to visit their favorite Museum(s) in-person and/or through online virtual activities (space is limited and advance tickets are required for free admission). Not all museums are participating on both days of the event. All guests must pre-register for free admission, otherwise, regular admission fees will apply.

Here is how it works:
