Aerospace Museum of California
     
 

Ground control has cleared you for landing at the Aerospace Museum of California. On the former McClellan Air Force Base, the museum features dozens of meticulously restored military and civilian aircraft, NASA- supported exhibits, state-of-the-art Aviation Learning Center, flight simulator and gift shop. The museum is also a frequent stop for popular national traveling exhibits.

The California Museum
     
 

The California Museum for History, Women and the Arts - home of the "California Hall of Fame" - is a new kind of history museum featuring captivating, active and engaging experiences about California and its people. The Museum celebrates the brave, intelligent, funny, inventive, adventurous and influential people who have helped make the Golden State shine so bright. The brightest of the bright, including the likes of Sally Ride, Tiger Woods and Willie Mays can be found in the "California Hall of Fame."

California State Capitol Museum
     
  Want to rub elbows with California's most influential decision makers? The general public has been able to do just that since the State Capitol building opened its doors in Sacramento in 1869. California State Indian Museum
     
 

Long before the Gold Rush, Native Americans made their home in California. The California State Indian Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into California's history and illustrates Native American culture, arts and the lifestyle of California's earliest inhabitants. Included are hands-on exhibits, which offer you the chance to try traditional Native American tools for yourself.

California State Military Museum
     
 

Attention! The California State Military Museum is the state's official military museum and research center, which features three floors of weapons, uniforms, photos and over 30,000 other artifacts that reflect California and U.S. military history from Colonial times through today. The museum houses an 18,000 volume research library and conference and meeting facilities.

California State Railroad Museum
     
 

All aboard for the world-famous Railroad Museum! Located at the birthplace of the Transcontinental Railroad, the expansive Railroad Museum showcases how railroads and their workforce have shaped our lives, economy and culture. Hobby enthusiasts will also enjoy Small Wonders: The Magic of Toy Trains," an impressive collection of over 1,000 vintage toy trains.

Crocker Art Museum
     
 

Back in the 1800s Judge Edwin B. Crocker, of the influential early California Crocker family, decided it was time to bring a little culture to the Old West. Today, the Crocker Art Museum is the oldest continuously operated art museum west of the Mississippi. The elaborate Victorian of the finest collections houses structure one of master drawings and California art in addition to a vast collection of European and Asian art and international ceramics.

Discovery Museum Science & Space Center
     
 

Blast off to the Discovery Museum Science & Space Center, home to the Challenger Learning Center, where space travel is brought down to earth. Visit the Bone Zone and get your hands on skeletons, skulls and fossils. Our youngest visitors are welcome to play and learn in the Healthy Bones Diner with the  drive-up window.  The Discovery also houses a live-animal discovery room, nature trails, wildlife pond and Sacramento's only public planetarium. Folsom History Museum
   

The Folsom History Museum houses artifacts chronicling the settlement and development of the city of Folsom and the surrounding region Learn about native peoples, early settlers, the development of hydro-electric power at Folsom Lake, the Pony Express and the prison made famous by Johnny Cash, in addition to a vast selection of intriguing temporary exhibits and a gift shop.

Governor’s Mansion State Historic Park
   

Built in 1877, the Governor's Mansion is a regal Victorian mansion that was the home of California's governors from George Pardee in 1903 until Ronald Reagan took office in the late 1960s. While the Capitol acted as the office, this mansion acted as the family home. Enjoy the opulently decorated rooms while learning all the tales, secrets and mischief of the families that lived there.

Heidrick Ag History Center
   

Though Sacramento has grown into a bustling cosmopolitan city, the region's roots are firmly planted on the farm. Just the Heidrick Ag History Center showcases a short drive from downtown Sacramento, the marvels of agriculture and commercial trucking with 130,000 square feet of interactive one-of-a-kind exhibits and the world's largest collection of antique agricultural equipment.

Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park
   

Leland Stanford, former California governor, railroad tycoon and founder of Stanford University, purchased what would become this elegant mansion for $ 8,000 in 1861. A recent restoration has recaptured the mansion's Victorian grandeur. Serving as the governor's office prior to the opening of the State Capitol, today it is the State's official location for diplomatic and protocol receptions, but non-diplomats can enjoy its grandeur on daily tours.

Museum of Medical History
   

Experience the evolution of medicine from the Gold Rush to today in this unique museum presented by the Sierra Sacramento Valley Medical Society. Old Sacramento Schoolhouse Museum
   

The Old Sacramento Schoolhouse allows you to experience California's early days of education in a living replica of an 1800s one-room schoolhouse. Enjoy the photographs, books, pot-bellied stove, desks and other antique items from the Gold Rush era, but be on your best behavior, or the schoolmarm might make you stay late and clap the dust off the erasers.

Old Sacramento State Historic Park
   

Old Sacramento packs a lot of history into just a couple blocks. Check out the cluster of noteworthy early Gold Rush sites including iUTRE the Eagle Theatre, the BE Hastings Building (once home of the California Supreme Court), the western terminus of the Pony Express, and the 1 855 Big Four Building (now home to the Huntington & Hopkins Hardware Store and the California State Railroad Museum Library).

Sacramento Historic City Cemetery
   

There's much more to see at Sacramento's Historic City Cemetery than you might first think. A true outdoor museum, the cemetery is adorned with ornate statues, t dramatic markers and lush gardens, providing a great record of California's history from the Gold Rush Era through today. Keep an eye out for the popular "Lantern Tours" held in October.

Sojourner Truth Multicultural Arts Museum
   

Named in honor of the celebrated abolitionist and women's rights activist, the Sojourner Truth Multicultural Arts Museum is dedicated to bringing African, Asian, Hispanic and Native American art to the general public. Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park
   
All aspiring pioneers will want to mosey on over to Sutter's Fort. Sacramento's road to cityhood can be traced back to this structure, built beginning in 1839, where John Sutter offered supplies and rest to pioneers. As the region's original commerce center, the fort offered a blacksmith shop, bakery, living quarters and more. Be on the look out for a colorful bunch of costumed "living history" docents who call the park home.

California Automobile Museum (formerly the Towe Auto Museum)
   

Vroom! Vroom! The California Automobile Museum chronicles the development and impact of the automobile with over 150 classic vehicles on display including race cars, muscle cars, hot rods, luxury cars and early models. Also on site is a rare Wurlitzer pipe organ from the 1920s. Don't forget to get a souvenir in the gift shop or enjoy a soda in the 50s style ice cream parlor.
